THE JUNIOR SPECTRES PATHWAY
The Nunawading Spectres basketall program is an elite pathway for talented players in the Melbourne East Basketball Association and surrounding areas. Spectres basketball has successfully competed at a representative level since the inception of elite basketball.
The Nunawading Spectres are proud or its tradition and have produced more Australian representative players than any other club through its representative program. With a depth of elite performance coaches to instruct and develop junior athletes the spectres are continuing to have a firm hold as the leader in basketball in the state and nationally.
Representative basketball is played once per week against other competing Associations in addition to players’ Junior Domestic commitments, selection for representative is from our domestic competition and from players wanting to join our elite program from outside and who are wanting to join our compete program.
Whilst the majority of associations are from other cities within Melbourne, there are some teams from outlying areas including Sunbury, Werribee, the Mornington Peninsula, Geelong and Bendigo. The Victorian Junior Basketball League now has more than 900 teams competing and is the highest competition in the state. State teams are selected from this competition as well as elite training for state wide athletes. Nunawading Spectres has had the most succesfull programover the history of junior basketball, with such players as Shane Heal and many other's who have played with the spectres and gone on to represent our country nationally and internationally. If you want to become an elite basketballer the Nuanwading Spectres program is the program to be a part of.
Nunawading Spectres currently has 41 boys and girls teams competing in its Junior Representative program. All teams train on Sunday mornings and Tuesday or Wednesday nights.
